Location: France

.able Journal

.able Journal is a visual journal of practice-based research at the intersection of art, design, and sciences. It is a peer-reviewed journal exploring the full potential of multimedia, and multi-platform publishing .able’s aim is to deliver visual essays to the academic sphere and beyond, to bring this research and creation to as wide an audience as possible.

Preparing to Launch a New Product

When we first started working with .able Journal, they were preparing to launch their new product, a visual journal of practice-based research, which would be available to users on multiple devices and platforms. But before going live, they wanted to make sure that their product would, in fact, be compatible with different devices and platforms and behave as intended. Additionally, they wanted to ensure that the product was not only functional but also provided an equally smooth and enjoyable user experience on devices with different screen sizes.

With vast experience in quality assurance and with over 3,500 real devices at our immediate disposal, TestDevLab was the perfect choice to help .able Journal launch their product successfully without any issues related to functionality, usability, and user experience.

Introducing TestDevLab—Ensuring a Great User Experience Across Devices

To address the client’s needs, the first step was to create a device matrix that would cover a range of screen sizes, operating systems, versions, and other important variables that may influence the user experience. We selected a variety of desktop, mobile, and tablet devices with different specifications that would meet our testing needs and provide us with valuable data.

After we gathered the test devices, we then initiated an extensive two-week exploratory testing phase, which allowed us to interact with the user flow of the product, test key functionalities, and identify potential vulnerabilities. During these two weeks, all devices were thoroughly explored, and the product was tested in its entirety.

Following a two-week break, we spent one-week validating fixes on the same devices we previously tested on. Our focus was checking if the fixes were working, how they impacted the product, and whether they introduced any new functionality issues that weren’t there before.

In addition to our testing efforts, our QA team provided valuable input to the client by sharing their opinions on certain design and functionality aspects of the platform. Namely, we offered suggestions on how the platform could be improved to enhance the overall quality. Moreover, we were available to answer any questions or address any doubts the client may have. After testing was complete, we provided the client with actionable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of their product. This empowered them to make better development decisions and important improvements prior to the launch.

With endless support from the TestDevLab team throughout the project, as well as our tailored approach to software testing, .able Journal was able to ensure that their product performed well and delivered a seamless user experience across all relevant devices and platforms. Furthermore, by using our large pool of devices, we were able to cover a wide range of possible end-user scenarios, resulting in more than 100 reported defects, observations, and suggestions. All of this helped the client to improve the overall quality of their product significantly, ensuring it meets all of their requirements in terms of functionality while delivering a great user experience to all users.
