Establishing a Clear and Efficient Testing Process

BTA was planning to completely change the web portal and mobile application solutions in all Baltic countries. It resulted in numerous challenges that could affect the quality of their product and became an obstacle moving forward. Specifically, the solution was several times more complicated than the existing one, and they wanted to have a clean and clear testing process in place and start to use test automation, but they had a shortage of QA engineers.

As one of the largest providers of non-life insurance services in the Baltics, BTA understood the importance of delivering a high-quality product to their customers while streamlining their software development processes. This prompted them to seek out help from experts in the field. They needed a reliable QA partner who could fill in the gaps within their own teams by helping them establish clear and efficient QA processes, set up various configurations, and introduce test automation to enhance all testing activities.

Introducing TestDevLab—Setting Up and Implementing Test Automation

When we first started working with BTA, our first goal was to perform a thorough assessment of their internal procedures, technology stack, and bug reporting practices to understand their challenges better and put together a detailed action plan. After conducting a thorough analysis, we learned that their current practices are not applicable for effective testing of the planned new solution and will result in a negative impact on their testing efficiency, software quality, and release cycle. It would make it difficult for them to keep up with their new development and numerous new releases and fix bugs quickly enough.

To help the client improve their software testing processes, our solution was to introduce test automation as a way to ensure a faster feedback cycle, higher test coverage, increased test accuracy, and faster time to market. To create automated tests, we used the Jira and TestUI framework—based on Selenium and Appium frameworks—and set up a CI/CD pipeline with Jenkins. In addition to that, we developed an automated process for building mobile applications for iOS and Android and set up a distribution platform so that mobile applications could be distributed within the organization.

Our team helped BTA rebuild its web portal to ensure a smoother user experience and launch a completely new mobile app that enables health insurance customers to book doctor's appointments, making them the first insurance provider in Latvia to offer such a service.
